Tarmac and Kvaerner win latest two prisons
Tarmac and Kvaerner have been selected as the preferred bidders to
construct the latest two privately financed prisons at Onley in
Warwickshire and Marchington in Staffordshire respectively.
Marchington will be designed, built, financed and operated by
Premier Prison Services, a joint venture between US firm Wackenhut
Corrections Corporation and facilities manager Serco. Kvaerner will
construct the 800-place, Category B prison, along with sister
companies Kvaerner Technology and Kvaerner Rashleigh Weatherfoil.
Architect is Capita Group. The capital cost is £65 million and
overall cost is £240 million over the full concession
period.
Onley, near Rugby, will cost £40 million to build and
£154 million overall during the 25-year concession period.
Design is by Tarmac Professional Services with mechanical and
electrical installation by Tarmac firm, Crown House Engineering.
