Tarmac wins £80m Trident base refit job
Tarmac Construction is favourite to win an £80 million
contract to refit Number 9 dock at Devonport Royal Dockyard in
Plymouth.
Contract Journal understands that although no contract has been
signed as yet, the client, Devonport Management, is now only
holding talks with Tarmac.
Bids by Taylor Woodrow and Balfour Beatty have been ruled out
pending the successful conclusion of discussions with Tarmac.
Tenders submitted by Kvaerner Construction and Laing/Amec were
eliminated earlier in the bidding process.
The project is part of a £350 million redevelopment of the
dockyard to allow the refitting and refuelling of the UK's nuclear
powered Trident submarine fleet.
The contract involves strengthening the walls of Number 9 Dock to
make it earthquake-proof and comprises a mix of civil engineering
and building work.
