Morrison Construction has been awarded a five-year £50 million
contract to carry out an extensive programme of construction and
civil engineering work in the Falkland Islands for the Falkland
Islands Government.
The contract marks the first time the islands' Government has
entered into an exclusive 'partnership' arrangement with a
contractor to manage a forward programme of public works.
As well as the creation of new roads and the repair of existing
ones, the work will include the construction of new municipal
buildings, refurbishment of and extensions to existing public
buildings and schools, the installation of wind turbines for power
generation and improvements to the islands' existing sewerage and
drainage infrastructure.
Additionally, Morrison will be undertaking infrastructure work to
meet the needs of new housing developments in the islands.
It is estimated that this contract, together with the other work in
the region, will have a value of up to £10 million per annum
for the Group.
Chairman Sir Fraser Morrison said: "In selecting partnering as
their preferred procurement route, the Falklands Islands Government
is clearly seeking value for money.
"The scale and diversity of this contract plays to the strengths of
the wide-ranging skills and disciplines Morrison has to offer. It
is consistent with our strategy overseas - to select specific
projects with the right level of profit potential and a low risk
parameter."
