Police remove safety rep
Police had to remove a trade union official from a Kvaerner
building site in West London last Thursday after he alleged that
workers were not receiving their statutory holiday entitlements.
Ucatt's John Gould walked onto the Staines High Street site to ask
for holiday pay for the workforce to be in line with the provisions
of the Working Time Regulations. He told CJ: "Only last week the
major employers in the industry attended a national conference to
discuss Respect for People. Yet only a few days later they are
hiding behind the police."
However, a Kvaerner spokes-person said Gould only wanted to discuss
safety issues.
She added: "Gould contacted our human resources department and they
are happy to talk to him about his concerns this week."
