Review of CIB's future
by Kathy Watson
Discussions have begun with Government and the industry on the
future shape of the Construction Industry Board.
Incoming chairman, Chris Vickers, and his team are reviewing the
Board's achievements in its first four-years, whether they should
change and what should its relationship be with the Movement for
Innovation. They will also look at resourcing and funding.
Industry pundits believe the Board still has a major task to
implement the codes of practice, which they produced following Sir
Michael Latham's review. Specialist contractors are also pushing
the Board to implement Latham's recommendation of trust funds set
up by clients to ensure fair and regular payments during
construction contracts.
The review is expected to take 10 months with final recommendations
being presented to the current Board in April next year.
