BOXTEXT: John Bacon, of Lingfield Way, Silverdell

John Bacon claims to have suffered continual problems after he and his wife, Yvonne, were given their first moving-in date, last October. They eventually moved in two months later. "The painters worked day and night but it was just splish, splash, splosh to get the work out of the way and you can imagine how that turned out. Then a representative from Charles Church went through the house with a fine toothcomb and compiled a snagging list that was seven pages long. Most of the items were decorative or cosmetic or small jobs that had not been seen to. But the list grew. Things just dragged on."

He says that when he discovered the floor of the landing needed re-adjusting he called in the NHBC inspector.

Now, he says, the NHBC has agreed to look at four other snags he claims to have discovered since, and an inspection has been arranged for 6 August.

Bacon adds that his step-daughter Caroline and her partner Ivan Coles have also experienced difficulties. "They bought a plot nearby and the ceiling was completely out of true. Charles Church paid for her to stay in a hotel for a week saying that all the work would only take that long. But it took two-and-half weeks and they said they would pay for accommodation no longer. The two of them ended up sleeping in our small room upstairs. We're all angry. We've all paid good money and all we want to do is live in our own house. Charles Churches' attitude is that we will put it right but without any time constraints leaving us waiting for builders that may or may not turn up on a specified day."

l Two days after Contract Journal visited the Bacon house four men arrived at their front door to carry out repairs.
