Birse is believed to be favourite to win an estimated £20
million contract to upgrade the existing Derby sewage works at
Spondon in Derbyshire for Severn Trent Water.
The contract is the first of a three-phase scheme at the plant.
Work will start this month and take around two years to complete.
Phase one will enable the plant to treat flows of up to 206,000,000
litres per day.
The contract, which also includes some elements of detailed design
work, will encompass all civil, building, mechanical and electrical
works associated with the scheme.
The work will include the construction, installation and
commissioning of a diffused air activated sludge plant, a
sludge-thickening plant with filter belts and centrifuges, a sludge
digestion plant, along with a workshop and control building. The
contract also calls for the construction of a new river crossing
for vehicles and pedestrians and associated works services. A
high-voltage ring main system will also be installed.
