Jarvis wins £67m PFIschool projects


Jarvis Projects has been awarded preferred bidder status on four major private finance initiative schools projects with a combined value of £67 million.

Homelands Primary School and Westlands Bilateral Secondary Schools project is a flagship project for Torbay Council, and will be rebuilt at a cost of £16 million, with a 25-year maintenance contract. The whole life value of the 25-year contract is £55 million.

The Trustees of Hampden Gurney Church of England School have awarded the firm the £22 million contract to build a new school and housing on the site of the existing school in Harrowby Street in Westminster. The cost will be financed by the sale of housing.

Balfron High School, the first single school to be delivered in Scotland under PFI, will be built for Stirling Council at a construction cost of £17 million. The whole life value is estimated at £45 million.

East Renfrewshire Council has awarded Jarvis the £12 million contract to design, build, fund, and operate over 25 years, a new Mearns Primary School and a major extension to the existing St Nimian's High School. The whole life value of the contract over the 25-year concession is worth an estimated £50 million.
