The maintenance and repair of some 30,000 council homes in 11 areas
in and around Liverpool will be taken on by a partnership, formed
between Building & Property Group and Unicorn Constancy
Services, in a £200m, seven-year contract with Liverpool City
Council.
It is the first time Liverpool City Council has out-sourced these
services.
As part of the arrangements under the contract, 600 council
employees from the council's Direct Services Organisation for
Building Maintenance have transferred to Building & Property
and around 66 council staff including technicians, surveyors and
engineers are now under the employment of Unicorn Consultancy.
The former city employees will be entitled to continue with their
existing pensions scheme run for local government workers in
Liverpool, the Wirral and surrounding areas.
Building & Property will carry out repair and maintenance work
and Unicorn will take over the constancy arm of the project.
