The Respect for People working group, set up to tackle sustainable
construction and improve conditions for workers, will confirm full
details of its key performance indicators (KPIs) on 22 May.
However, Contract Journal understands that seven KPIs will be used
to enable projects and firms to measure their performance and
monitor improvements. They are:
l Annual spending per head on training.
l Days of training per employee.
l Sickness absence rates.
l Turnover of employees per year.
l Turnover rate on project team (on both client and supply
side).
l Frequency of review and monitoring of equal opportunity/diversity
policies and their application and site welfare.
The working group, one of two focus groups set up by the Movement
for Innovation, revealed that companies will be able to set their
own targets for improvement. Firms could also introduce their own
performance indicators to run alongside those chosen by the working
group.
"It is anticipated that individual clients will decide for
themselves what emphasis to place on performance against these
Respect for People indicators when deciding on the award of work,"
said M4I executive director Ian Huntington. He added that the real
benefits of measurement are likely to be achieved by those
companies that undertake performance measurement as a course,
identify problems or scope for improvements, and take appropriate
action.
