Eastenders' parade
Fitzpatrick has wrapped up phase 1 of its Mile End Park development
in East London. The public now has access to the 1,100m2 lake and
cascade, which is filled with water from the aqua chalk layer via
bore holes 80-90m deep.
Also featured in phase 1 is a 25m-wide bridge spanning 32m across
Mile End road (picture CJ 24 November 1999) connecting the north
and south ends of the park. The network of tube tunnels meant six
months of negotiations with London Underground were needed before
the lifting crane could go into action.
Fitzpatrick is now working on phase 2, which will extend the park
on either side of Mile End Road, and include a number of speciality
mini parks. It will take 45 weeks and up to 20 subcontractor work
packages are available. When finished, the park will extend for
2.4km.
