After a nine month slog, Carillion has taken the prize of BT's
Project Jaguar facilities management and minor works contract with
partners facilities manager Haden and security specialist Reliance
and rumoured profit margin of around 5%.
However, the project has shrunk from an initial £1bn for the
five year span, when first reported last year, to "over £500m"
according to BT this week. It is understood to be a guaranteed
maximum price contract with fixed and variable costs for facilities
management as well as the minor works budget which was recently
running at £35m per year. There will be an option to extend
the five-year contract through what is being called an "evergreen"
clause.
In all, 8,500 buildings will be covered by the deal that, when
launched last July, was headlined as "building management solutions
for the future".
Carillion will act as the enabling organisation managing change and
innovation through a network of eight regional service providers.
Some BT staff will move over, others will face redeployment or
voluntary redundancy.
