Warings cuts time and costs on Army contract
by Kathy Watson
Impressive savings in construction time and cost have been recorded
by contractor Warings on a new building for the Army Training and
Recruitment Agency unit at Middle Wallop, Hampshire.
Working with an established supply chain, its achievements include
a 22% saving in capital costs and a 15% saving in whole-life cycle
costs. When the building was completed three weeks ago, its
programme had been slashed by 20% or eight weeks. Handover is said
to have been achieved with zero defects.
At the same time, the contractor secured profit and overheads on
the £1m building of just under 10%, as well as being paid a
fee for the concept design stage.
Warings is part of a contractor club set up at Warwick University
into advanced supply chain management.
Warings' Nigel Catling said one of the strengths of the new
procurement methodology was access to the client without the
project manager interface.
