Amec has completed the first tranche of its supply chain
rationalisation programme by signing partnering agreements with 21
suppliers and subcontractors in mechanical and electrical, water,
structural steel, cladding, scaffolding, piling and
earthworks.
The move follows a rigorous prequalification process that was first
announced last May. Its aim was to incorporate the philosophies and
advantages of long-term partnering for all companies in the supply
chain.
More than 100 firms have been vetted in this first phase but more
will follow. "Our aim is to increase substantially our work with
suppliers and subcontractors that are strategic partners," said
George Payne, Amec's main board director heading the
initiative.
When the initiative began, Payne promised that suppliers with whom
it had been in dispute would not necessarily be excluded.
