Would your MD use the site loo?
by John d'Arcy
Would your managing director be happy to use your site toilet
facilities? Would you bring him to eat in the site canteen?
These are the kind of questions site managers should be asking
themselves as the ultimate test of the acceptability of their
worker welfare facilities, according to the Movement for
Innovation's Respect for People working group.
The group has established a series of seven subgroups, including
one dealing with the site working environment. All are preparing
three or four key performance indicators (KPIs) of best
practice.
The site environment team, headed by airports operator BAA's Mike
Roberts, is developing a checklist inspection sheet of welfare
facilities. This is set to cover the provision of a canteen,
toilets, drying rooms, and a first aid room. A set of KPIs is to be
established by marking the facilities on up to 40 different points.
A preliminary checklist proposes scoring the facilities on marks of
one to five, ranging from unacceptable to excellent.
But it proposes the ultimate test as "would you bring your director
to use this facility?"
