The body that certifies fire and security products is taking action
against a handful of manufacturers that are making false or
misleading claims about their products.
The Loss Prevention Certification Board said that "four or five
companies" are being investigated for "trying to pass-off
non-approved products or components as being LPCB-certified".
An LPCB spokeswoman said the board was not naming the companies
involved but said that the cases involved different types of
products and related to claims made for their fire and security
performance.
She added: "For a couple of the companies, it is a case of them not
having been very careful in the wording they have used. For another
couple of companies, it appears that they are deliberately flouting
the LPCB."
If the matters cannot be resolved with the firms, the Board said it
will consider legal action, as well as "naming and shaming".
The Board is urging specifiers to use its List of approved fire and
security products and services to check whether products have LPCB
approval.
