Highways Agency recruits new chief
Tim Matthews has been appointed as the new chief executive of the
Highways Agency. Matthews, 48, is currently chief executive of
Guy's & St Thomas' Hospital Trust and will take up his new
appointment in the summer.
He replaces Peter Nutt who has been acting chief executive since
the departure of Lawrie Haynes last year.
Matthews, who has spent 10 years with the Department of Health,
will be paid £120,000 per annum for overseeing the Agency,
which employs 1,600 staff and has an annual budget of £1.5bn.
The post - a five-year contract, which may be extended - also
attracts a bonus of up to 25% of salary.
Minister of transport Lord Macdonald said: "I am sure we have found
the right man to tackle congestion, and to make sure the national
network works for all road users."
