Final offers for Mersey schools' project
Liverpool City Council has, this week (15 May), asked two firms to
submit best and final offers for its £46m grouped schools'
private finance initiative project.
The project involves the refurbishment or rebuilding of 30 city
schools plus a 25-year facilities management contract. Included are
19 primary, eight secondary and three nursery schools. The
possibility of new build is there where it proves to be more
economical than refurbishment.
The two firms receiving invitations are Bovis Lend Lease and
Jarvis. Also on the original shortlist of four were Balfour Beatty
and Alfred McAlpine. "The council undertook a rigorous evaluation
of bids. All were of excellent quality, but not all affordable,"
said project manager Ken McAndlees. To help with the next stage,
the authority has appointed Damian Gore as assistant project
manager. The council expects to conclude the BAFO stage by the end
of September and is aiming to have contracts signed in March 2001.
The council wants building to begin June 2001 and major
construction to be completed within three years.
