'A certain style' sought for Bridlington marina
Over 30 firms have expressed interest in a £60m redevelopment
of Bridlington marina and harbour in Yorkshire. East Riding of
Yorkshire Council has allocated £14m plus interest, and
bidders will be asked to put forward proposals for the remainder of
the financing.
Included in the scheme are the existing leisure and commercial
harbour and immediate surrounding area. Depending on layout,
approximately 2.6ha of land could be involved as well as a
500-birth marina encompassing 1ha of water. The council is placing
a high priority on quality of construction and the ambience of the
finished development.
Andrew Milner, assistant chief executive of the council, said: "We
are looking for a certain style. A village feel like that of Port
Solent [the marina at Portsmouth]. There is support for the
development from the local residents and from the Regional
Development Agency."
The Council expects to shortlist six firms by the end of the
summer.
