JCB attacks dumptruck market again - HE Services Liverpool branch destroyed by fire

Exclusive by Ian Brown

JCB used the opportunity at Intermat to re-launch its new ADT (Articulated Dump Truck) line this week. JCB has now replaced the original line-up which was dropped back in 1992.

The new range consists of two models, the 714 (14t) and 716 (17t), with a larger 718 to follow in the autumn.

Major styling differences stem from the use of the cab from the Fastrac and an extensively redesigned body made from Swedish high-strength Hardox steel plate.

Drive is via a powershift transmission to both front and rear axles and the power source is a Cummins 'B' Series 5.9 litre, six-cylinder diesel.

JCB has done its sums and says: "We've had lots of interest from users of the old models (there are still quite a few about) and we'll be building from that platform. But we believe there are new markets out there to be conquered."

Reader enquiry no: 101 A mystery fire destroyed HE Services' Liverpool depot in Merton Road, St. Helens last Wednesday. All the buildings were totally gutted and a tractor unit, plant delivery truck, service engineers' van and several small excavators were also destroyed.

In addition, a brand new Komatsu PC210-6 excavator was severely damaged when a wall fell on it.

HE Services has set up an emergency Freefone helpline (0800-9759795) for customers and the other eight HE branches are piling in to make sure service levels to Merseyside customers are maintained.
