Prefab homes in Bristol
byTimWood
Prefabricated buildings are to be used by Bristol City Council on a
new housing project to replace bungalows that have been homes to
families since the Second World War.
As part of a £1.2m contract, manufacturer Elliot Group has
already provided 15 homes in the first phase of the replacement
programme and another 20 are due before the end of the year.
Prefabricated buildings were used after the Second World War to
house people whose homes were blown away during the Blitz. The 700
that are left in Bristol have become a priority for replacement
even though they have lasted half a century, significantly longer
than their 30-year design life.
