Miller wins Polegate bypass build project
The Highways Agency contract to build the Polegate bypass has been
won by Miller Civil Engineering.
The £17.2m contract involves design and build of a 2.9km dual
carriageway bypass to the north of Polegate in East Sussex to
provide relief to the existing A27. Work is expected to start later
this summer.
Highways Agency project manager David Smith said: "Much of the road
will be in cutting to reduce noise and visual impact. There will
also be dense planting along both sides of the road for most of its
length. We have already planted 5,000 native trees and shrubs and
by the time the scheme is complete and open to traffic we will have
planted about 100,000 trees in total."
The removal of trunk road traffic from Polegate has been designed
to provide residents with a safer and cleaner living space and,
together with the newly improved A22 nearby, aid regeneration in
the Eastbourne area.
