Festival Hall appoints Bovis
Bovis Lend Lease has been appointed project manager for the
£50m planned refurbishment of the Royal Festival Hall.
The South Bank Board said the appointment signified progress in its
vision of a revitalised South Bank, of which the Royal Festival
Hall would be the first phase. If planning permission is granted,
work on the hall will be done in three stages.
Stage one will involve refurbishment of the public foyers,
ancillary spaces, external envelope and services for £30m.
Stage two will involve the renewal of acoustics and renovation of
the auditorium and back stage area.
In stage three, consideration is being given to an extension
between the Hungerford Viaduct and an elevated walkway.
The Heritage Lottery Fund has made £0.5m available for the
development of the project. A further £12m has also been
promised in principle for the refurbishment of the foyers and
public spaces of the Festival Hall.
