Harvey Nichols picks Balfour
Balfour Beatty has won the contract to build the £31m flagship
Harvey Nichols department store in Edinburgh.
The firm beat Kvaerner, which also reached the final rounds, to
negotiate for the design and build contract. The contract includes
the demolition of existing offices and the bus station at St Andrew
Square shopping centre in Edinburgh, followed by the construction
of a 9,600m2 department store on five levels. The contract includes
24 additional retail units with office accommodation at the upper
levels.
A new open-air shopping avenue, together with associated services
yard and access tunnel, will also be created. Building time is
estimated at approximately two years with the store opening in
autumn 2002.
