LOUNGINGABOUT: Heathrow airport's new common user gate lounge at Terminal 3 has, this month, opened for operation with a construction saving of £1.2m. The final cost was £12.1m. The extension at the end of Pier 5 provides an additional 1,690m2 capacity at departures level and 550m2 of new airline ramp accommodation at apron level. Cost and time saving initiatives included the use of pre-assembled lighting gantries complete with modular wiring and local off site fabrication of the four fixed jetty links, craned in at night.
