Breaking the Swedish tradition at Volvo
Tony Helsham has been appointed president of Volvo Construction
Equipment effective from 5 June.
Since 1998, when Volvo acquired Samsung, he has been chief
executive of Volvo, South Korea, where he was responsible for
integrating the former Samsung operation into the Volvo mainstream.
He will be based at Volvo CE HQ in Brussels. This is the first time
a non-Swede has held the post - Helsham is Australian by birth. A
quick straw poll of current and former colleagues shows that he is
generally considered to be "a breath of fresh air" with a
"non-stuffy attitude to getting the job done".
