Colin Wood this week takes on the role of director and chief
executive of the Construction Plant-Hire Association (CPA). Wood
was formerly a director of Baldwins Industrial Services and has the
brief to drive the CPA forward and increase membership.
Health, safety and training will remain paramount, said CPA
president Tony Chapman. The latest manifestation of this is the new
Model Conditions of Hire 2001, which will go out with plant hired
to the trade and is published on the day Wood starts.
The conditions have been rewritten to make them simpler and clearer
and address areas including laws enacted since 1979, the supply of
persons other than the plant operator and the use of lifting
gear.
For those hiring equipment to members of the public, the CPA has
compiled the Hire Contract Terms for Consumers. This contains
health and safety information for the user and is aimed at covering
the hirer against potential claims by any user who has an accident
while using rented equipment.
