Three firms have made it onto the shortlist for one of the biggest
deals on Section 2 of the £5.2bn Channel Tunnel Rail Link
project.
The line up for Contract 310, worth around £190m, is: Balfour
Beatty; Hochtief/Norwest Holst; and Eurolink (Miller/Dumez
GTM/Beton und Monierbau).
The client, Union Railways (North), ditched bids from Tracklink
(Mowlem/Bouygues/Besix) and also from an Alfred McAlpine/Amec
pairing.
A sixth outfit, including Galliford and NECSO Entrecanales
Cubiertas, pulled out of the bidding process early on.
Bids from the shortlisted trio are due back by mid-July. A
preferred bidder is due to emerge in the autumn, with work on site
set to start by spring 2002.
Contract 310 covers a stretch of railway between Ripple Lane in
Dagenham and the Thames Tunnel approach at Thurrock.
It also includes three viaducts, modifications to existing railway
infrastructure as well as highway and utility diversions.
