Three wait in line for CTRL deal

Three firms have made it onto the shortlist for one of the biggest deals on Section 2 of the £5.2bn Channel Tunnel Rail Link project.

The line up for Contract 310, worth around £190m, is: Balfour Beatty; Hochtief/Norwest Holst; and Eurolink (Miller/Dumez GTM/Beton und Monierbau).

The client, Union Railways (North), ditched bids from Tracklink (Mowlem/Bouygues/Besix) and also from an Alfred McAlpine/Amec pairing.

A sixth outfit, including Galliford and NECSO Entrecanales Cubiertas, pulled out of the bidding process early on.

Bids from the shortlisted trio are due back by mid-July. A preferred bidder is due to emerge in the autumn, with work on site set to start by spring 2002.
