The Construction Industry Council (CIC) has said that an
industry-wide drive to push through Rethinking Construction is now
"even more important" since the demise of the Construction Industry
Board.
The CIC's call comes in response to a consultation paper by David
Crewe of the Department of Trade & Industry over the future of
the Movement for Innovation's (M4I) Egan report.
Proposals from the CIC centre on an industry melting pot that would
blend the M4I and the Housing Forum into one force.
The new body would be Rethinking Construction Ltd, a body made up
of industry and client associations, which would be fully funded by
public money and massive industry contributions for a finite life
of two years, commencing in April 2002.
The CIC said "there is a confusion over the various improvement
initiatives that are under way" and that "there needs to be a
clearer branding of the initiatives in the future".
The CIC also said the task of implementing Rethinking Construction
is far too great to be left to the current individual initiatives
alone and proposed M4I should be combined with the £150m
collective income of the CIC.
Rethinking Construction Ltd could fall under the jurisdiction of
the Strategic Forum for Construction.
