HGB passes stage-one school test

HBG is understood to have chalked up a stage-one victory on a £15m deal to build a new school in Hull. The first phase of the two-stage tender for the Endeavour School project focused on design, advance works and a guaranteed maximum price. Now the contractor will work up a fully fledged bid, with the city council expected to award the job formally in the autumn. The contract will be let as a partnering deal with the council. Work is expected to start on site in November this year. The school, for 1,200 pupils, is expected to open in June 2003. Other contenders for the scheme were Galliford, Ballast, Shepherd, Hochtief/Sewell and Interserve.
