Foden has updated its Alpha range of heavyweight trucks. Spanning
the 18t to 65t weight range, the line-up features Euro 3 engines
(Cummins or Caterpillar), a longer cab and ABS brakes.
Lengthening the cab by 140mm has allowed the interior to be
redesigned to give the driver extra space, extra facilities and
more storage. However, by slightly increasing the wheelbase it is
still possible to fit a 6.86m (22ft 6inch) body on the multi
wheeler, and the company will be looking at increasing the steering
lock to retain the turning circle.
Single-drive vehicles are fitted with disc brakes all round and the
aluminium cross members have been replaced with steel, although the
aluminium fuel tank remains. These vehicles will be available from
September while double-rive versions are scheduled for the first
quarter of 2002.
With the multi wheelers, the steered axles are fitted with disc
brakes while drums are retained on the rear. The multi wheelers
also retain the aluminium cross member and fuel tank, meaning that
an 8x4 with a 5.75m wheelbase has a chassis cab weight of 8.4t.
