McAlpine targets NHS
Alfred McAlpine Special Projects is targeting the government's 500
primary healthcare centre building bonanza, which is expected to
gather steam this year.
The construction services business has set up a new subsidiary, GP
Developments, which will specialise in going after this work. The
group's managing director Robert Tattrie revealed that discussions
were already ongoing with five healthcare trusts, and by 2003 this
could grow to 15.
Last year, the government announced that new primary healthcare
centres would replace small GP practises and offer minor operations
and outpatient facilities hitherto done at hospitals.
In September, Special Projects starts on site at one of the
country's largest primary health care centres in Pinfolds, Walsall.
The £3.5m centre will house 16 GPs.
