Miller set for £1bn scheme
Miller Developments is expected to start work late next year on the
UK's biggest redevelopment deal - the £1bn Omega scheme in
Cheshire.
Miller has been selected as preferred joint venture partner for the
Warrington project in tandem with the Royal Bank of Scotland.
However, Miller will not automatically become the scheme's main
contractor.
Andrew Sutherland, Miller Developments director, said: "I would be
surprised if English Partnerships would allow a negotiated deal -
and about 85% of the construction division's work is negotiated."
The job is much more likely to go out to competitive tender, he
said.
The 226ha scheme, which will be phased over 25 years, will include
offices, industrial and distribution space, hotels, shops and
leisure facilities. The target date for a start on site is November
2002.
Miller had to beat off a strong challenge from its only remaining
rival - a consortium including Amec and US developer Hines.
