Call to overhaul site safety standards
Construction industry staff and union officials met this week on
the anniversary of the deaths of two Staffordshire workers to agree
improved safety procedures at sites in the county. The Site Safety
Day marked the deaths of Mick and Carl Redgate, who were killed in
an accident on a site in Stoke-on-Trent on 23 July last year.
Operatives representing sites in Staffordshire presented safety
action plans to prevent the repetition of similar incidents. "The
initiative sees the total involvement of operatives in the
development of safety plans and activities on every site as the
critical element in the development of a zero accident culture,"
said a spokesman for the North Staffordshire Site Safety Campaign.
The campaign will press for every construction firm in the
Staffordshire area to become involved.
