HSE investigates foreign labour on Tottenham site
Illegal immigrants from Turkey are believed to have been working on
a building which collapsed in north London last Friday (20
July).
Five builders were converting an off-licence and newsagent into one
mini-supermarket in White Hart Lane when the front wall collapsed.
It was feared that all the builders were trapped beneath the
rubble, but this was dismissed over the weekend.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE), which has launched an
investigation, said it could not confirm reports that undocumented
foreign nationals were involved in the work.
An HSE spokesman added: " I have no information at present about
the workers or about how the accident happened."
