Wates and Jarvis bag PFI schools jobs
Wates and Jarvis have each played two, won one in the latest round
of Private Finance Initiative schools deals totalling about
£130m.
Wates will be the happier, having emerged as favourite to beat
Jarvis to preferred bidder status for a £100m concession for
Merton Borough Council in south London.
Jarvis will have to make do with a £30m concession for
Brighton and Hove City Council, where it is believed to have stolen
a march on Wates.
Wates, in jv with WS Atkins as the NewSchools consortium, will
refurbish and extend six secondary schools in Merton.
Work is expected to start on site around April next year. The
concession will run for 25 years.
Jarvis' scheme involves refurbishing four schools for Brighton and
Hove Council.
The council is expected officially to announce its preferred bidder
within the next few days, but Merton is not expected to reveal its
choice officially until next month.
