Construction product sales, although improved, remain below the
levels of a year ago, according to the second quarter survey by the
Construction Products Association (CPA). The survey also showed a
moderate rise in domestic selling prices, but manufacturers'
margins remain under pressure from rising import volumes. CPA
members expect further modest growth during the third

stonehenge improvement 'too risky'
The Highways Agency has drawn up a shortlist for the £130m
early design and build pathfinder improvement to the A303 at
Stonehenge, Wiltshire. It is thought that several big-name
contractors have decided to walk away from the contract, regarding
it as a "risky investment" due to its environmental sensitivity.
Six weeks of surveying is still required at the site after the foot
and mouth epidemic stopped proceedings earlier this year.
