Interior has tuned in to a £30m win on a prestige project for
the BBC in Birmingham.
Insiders say that the fit-out specialist has clinched the
management contract for a new studio, beating off intense
challenges from Bovis Lend Lease, Amec and Sir Robert McAlpine.
The BBC will quit its Pebble Mill studio in Birmingham and move to
its new home at the mixed-use Mailbox scheme - a revamp of the
former Royal Mail sorting office, which is being carried out by
Carillion under a £37m deal.
Insiders say the fit-out aspects of the studio project are "very
demanding and technically complex".
The job calls for high-tech radio drama studios and flexible
technical services.
The 10,000m2 project will span two floors and include offices,
workshops and public spaces.
A start on site is expected within the next few weeks and
completion is set for August 2002 at the latest.
BDP is the scheme's architect and engineer.
