OGC steps up job search
Exclusive by Carol Millett
A major recruitment drive by the Office of Government Commerce
(OGC) has been launched to speed up the delivery of the
government's Achieving Excellence in Construction initiative.
The recruitment drive is prompted in part by the poor progress some
government departments have made two years into the three-year
initiative that requires them to implement radical changes to the
way they procure construction.
Procurement consultant Clive Cain, the former Defence Estates chief
executive, told CJ: "I know of only one department which has taken
on board the need for change and that is Defence Estates.
"Many clients talk the talk, but that is all they do. The OGC is
absolutely right to push hard for change by bringing in this team
because these departments need to be pushed to take it on
board."
The recruitment drive aims to bring on board a number of
high-powered individuals to drive the initiative forward across all
departments for the next five to 10 years.
