Roof worker dies after fall
by Laura Hailstone
An 18-year-old demolition worker died last Friday (21 September)
after the first floor of a derelict building collapsed.
The unnamed teenager was employed by PS Henry Demolition, which was
subcontracted by Nicholas King Homes, to convert an old cinema in
Birkhamstead, Hertfordshire, into flats.
Nicholas King Homes was aware that the first floor was unstable and
partly rotten and had taken precautions to prevent entry. The
Health & Safety Executive has launched an investigation.
Meanwhile, an unnamed 27-year-old roof worker with Shepherd
Maintenance died last Thursday, a week after he fell 10m through a
roof light while carrying out a roof reskinning job at the Carpet
Right store, in Washington, Tyne and Wear.
