Kier retail gets two £15m tesco deals

Kier Retail has picked up two contracts from Tesco worth over £15m. At Broadstairs in Kent the company is building a £7.4m, 8,000m2 New Concept 80 superstore, due for completion in November. Kier Retail is also extending and refitting an existing Tesco superstore at Sandhurst in Surrey. Completion date on the £7.8m contract is due in February 2002.

bovis lend lease wins hotel deal

Bovis Lend Lease has won an £8m contract to manage the construction of a 202-bedroom hotel for Welcome Break at the London Gateway services on the M1 at Mill Hill. Construction will take 40 weeks.

skanska and MGT in BT joint venture

Skanska Networks UK and service provider MG Telecommunications (MGT) have been assigned a term contract for BT in the Thames Valley region. The Skanska/MGT jv will become the main contractor to BT in the region for out-sourced telecommunications cable installation services worth around £65m.

Taywood to start £13m law job

Taylor Woodrow is about to begin a £13m mixed development behind Newcastle's law courts. Developer Silverlink Properties' scheme, with architect Waring and Netts on board, was considered the best solution for the city council's sensitive site.

CITB launches health and safety cd-rom

The Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) has released a free health and safety demonstration CD-ROM, Showcase 2001, aimed at staff who carry out health and safety training. The CD-ROM contains a sample exercise from each of the CITB's current computer-based training programmes. Request for the CD-ROM should be faxed to Christine Churchouse on 01485 577503.

Brewer Consulting, run by Contract Journal's legal expert Geoff Brewer, has opened a second office at 6 St Giles Terrace, Northampton.

Portsmouth road repair papers out

A Colas/Pell Frischmann jv will receive the paperwork for Portsmouth City Council's £250m, 25-year roads maintenance PFI deal, not Accord/Pell Frischmann as stated in last week's issue of CJ. The city's repair backlog is estimated at £35m during the first five years.

Movement for Innovation chairman Alan Crane has joined the board of piling specialist Roger Bullivant, looking after business development and corporate efficiency. Citex has appointed Adam Smith as director of cost management, London. Alan Bramwell has succeeded Peter Dorber as chairman of the Lancashire and Cheshire branch of the Institute of Structural Engineers. Yorkshire-based PDR Construction has promoted Lee Newsham to financial director. Simon Gunn has joined the Weeks Group as group director of finance.
