Five in bypass bidding

Five firms have hit the road for the £11m Alvaston bypass deal on the A6 near Derby.

The line-up for the Highways Agency design and construct scheme is Alfred McAlpine, Balfour Beatty, Birse, Jackson and Fitzpatrick.

Bids are due back in April for an early autumn start on site. Completion is due within 18 months.

The job includes 2.3km of dual carriageway, bridges, a roundabout and an underpass.
