May Gurney and Hyder Consulting have teamed up to form MGH
Highways, in a bid to pursue Managing Agent Contractor (MAC) deals
with the Highways Agency.
Of particular interest to MGH will be the £50m-a-year Area 12
contract for North and South Yorkshire and East Riding, Derbyshire
and Greater Manchester; the £30m-a-year Area 13 covering areas
within Lancashire and Cumbria: and Area 14 covering parts of North
Yorkshire, Durham, Tyne and Wear and Northumberland, worth around
£25m per year.
MGH has already received pre-qualification documents for all three
contracts, which will be sent back on 14 May.
The two companies are working together as part of the A120/M11
Stansted Partnerships. They are also working together on structures
contracts for Railtrack.
Roger Williamson, May Gurney's director of highways maintenance,
said the company is initially focusing on the next tranche of MACs,
but will consider other contracts.
"What we have created is a seamless organisation capable of
delivering the complete service and quickly developing
cost-effective technical solutions," he added.
