£31m A1 Peterborough to Blyth road scheme up for grabs

The Highways Agency has advertised its latest early design and build scheme, which involves designing and constructing six grade separated junctions on the A1 between Peterborough and Blyth.

The £31m project calls for the removal of six single-level roundabouts and their replacement by grade separated junctions on thr A1 in Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire.

The early D&B ontract will require the successful contractor to take the scheme through the design development, statutory processes, preparation of draft orders, environmental statement and  possible public inquiries.

The junctions are at the following locations: Blyth (A1/A614)'; Appleyhead (A1/A614/A57); Markham Moor (A1/A57); Gonerby Moor (A1/B1174); Colsterworth (A1/A151 and the junction of A1/B6403); Carpenters Lodge (A1/B1081).

Five contractors will be invited to bid for the scheme, which will probably take place in three phases to minimise disruption on the A1. Contractors have until 2 July 2002 to register their interest in the scheme.
