Skanska to buy project management software
Skanska (UK) is set to pick a new IT software provider. Three
competitors are being evaluated and the winner will be the one
offering the best project management capability.
Chief executive David Fison said that the group needed a common
application system, so that all parts of the business could
exchange information.
"There are plenty of systems that do accounting and all that, but
it's not clear which is the best at project management," said
Fison. "That's the crucial element for us, so we are evaluating
three systems."
Two are global enterprise resource planning providers and the third
is a construction-specific specialist.
"We have agreed specific tasks so we know they are all being given
the same test," said Fison. "We want to compare apples with
apples."
The project has been running for nine months. Skanska's evaluation
team is led by Jim Kirkwood, managing director of Skanska
Technology.
Roll-out is due to get under way in November.
