Transit vans get TDCi common rail option
Ford is offering its latest Duratorq TDCi common rail turbo diesel
engine as an option on front wheel drive Transit vans.
The second generation common rail two-litre engine produces 92kW
(at 3,800rpm), against its predecessor's 74kW, and 285Nm of peak
torque between 1,500rpm and 2,200rpm - an increase of 24%.
With a laden short wheel base van, this translates to a 0-96kph
(0-60mph) time 19% quicker at 17 seconds. Mid-range acceleration in
the 48-96kph (30-60mph) in fourth gear is 22% faster at 14.5
seconds.
Fuel consumption is also said to be improved by 5%, thanks in part
to six hole injectors, 1,400 bar injection pressure and a
combustion feedback system that constantly checks and adjusts the
quality of the burn.
