Union aims for £12/hour craft wage
Delegates at UCATT's 16th biennial policy conference in Bournemouth
last week set a new craft minimum pay target of £12 per
hour.
"I think that is a fair rate," commented general secretary George
Brumwell.
"We have just seen the third stage of our current three-year
agreement with the building and civil engineering employers being
triggered.
"And we need an early start to the next round of talks on the pay
issue.
"We will be open to consider another three-year agreement. There is
still a significant workload in the industry.
"Now is the time to get the pay structure reformed and reshaped. We
are ready to consider a further long-term settlement as a step
towards fulfilling the goals of the Egan report and the industry's
Strategic Forum."
