Training grant funds set to rise by 7%
The Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) is increasing by 7%
the amount of money available for training grants for the year
2002/03. An extra £5m is being allocated to grants funding,
taking the total available sum to £75m.
Nearly half the total - over 43% - is being allocated to grants for
the training of new recruits.
CITB chairman Sir Michael Latham said: "We are urging construction
employers to apply for their share of the £75m available this
year if they want to benefit from a fully qualified workforce in
the long-term."
Grants of up to £6,000 over three years are available for
youngsters on an apprenticeship scheme. There are also grants for
the on-site assessment and training of existing operatives and for
companies who produce an approved training plan.
A booklet outlining all training grants for the year from 1 August
2002 to July 2003 is now available from the CITB.
