Four vie for £10m PFI London schools work
by Glenda Thisdell
Four contractors are lining up for a £10m-plus PFI schools
scheme in Croydon, south London.
Hoping to make the grade are: MJ Gleeson; Norwest Holst; Galliford
Try; and Jarvis.
Croydon council wants a new secondary school for 1,200 pupils plus
a community library. The winning contractor will be asked to
design, build, fund and offer repair and maintenance services for
up to 30 years. The concept behind the Ashburton Learning Village
is to link technology to education and give pupils an opportunity
to see this at close quarters.
"It is most important," said the council's project manager Adrienne
Bloch, "that the contractor is able to deliver our
aspirations."
Ten companies were long listed. The new school is scheduled for
opening in September 2004.
