Hilti to cut HAV risk

Power tool manufacturer Hilti has developed a training programme to reduce the risk of vibration injuries, in particular hand-arm vibration (HAV).

The scheme, which follows consultation with the HSE as well as the Kier Group and Speedy Hire, is designed for the end user as well as health and safety and site managers who are taught how to deal with the HAV issue.

"We can train operatives on the correct way to select a tool with appropriate consumables," explained drilling product manager Walid Hussain: "We can then explain to them that it is not correct to think a tool is only working effectively if they can feel vibration."
